How to stay productive, comfortable, and balanced when your “office”is temporary.

Working remotely from a serviced apartment offers flexibility, comfort, and privacy. But

being away from your usual home office also brings challenges — distractions, connectivity issues, lack of boundaries. In this post, we share practical tips to help you stay productive, healthy, and happy while working in serviced accommodation.

Choose the Right Accommodation Setup

Check the workspace beforehand — Ask for photos or a video showing the desk area. You’ll want a stable desk or table, a comfortable chair, and good lighting.

Consider having a backup (mobile hotspot).

Look for quiet surroundings — If possible, choose accommodation away from busy roads, loud shops, or nightlife areas.

Create a Dedicated Work Zone

Even if it's a compact space, designate one area (a corner of the living room or bedroom) as your “office”.

Use a folding desk or laptop stand to elevate your setup.

Use noise-cancelling headphones or soft furnishings (curtains, rugs) to reduce echo and noise.

Establish a Consistent Routine

Set clear work hours — start, lunch break, end time.

Get ready as if going to an office — shower, dress, etc. — to switch into work mode.

Plan micro-breaks — short walks, stretching, coffee breaks to avoid burnout.

Optimise for Connectivity & Power

Place your laptop and router close (within range) to reduce signal drop.

Use a surge protector or power strip (you may not always have enough outlets).

If bandwidth is limited, schedule large uploads/updates for off-peak hours (evening or night).

Manage Distractions & Stay Focused

Use the Pomodoro Technique (e.g. 25 min focus, 5 min break).

Limit personal device use (phone, social media) during work blocks.

If desk is close to bed, avoid using bed for working to maintain psychological separation.

Self‑Care & Wellness

 Maintain regular sleep, nutrition, hydration.

Do short exercises or stretching — many serviced apartments have a gym or fitness area.  Go outside for fresh air, walks, or nearby cafes when needing a change of scenery.

Remote work from serviced accommodation can be highly rewarding when done right. With the right setup, routine, and self-care, you can remain productive while enjoying new surroundings.
